The client is a seed-stage start-up based in the European Union. They had previously applied for one European patent, but wanted to increase their Intellectual Property portfolio. The CEO commissioned P2P Consulting to perform a patent harvesting workshop.

The workshop was held in person in the client’s operating country, with the CEO and CTO (both co-founders) attending. The workshop followed the standard pattern:

  • Technology review
  • Initial brainstorming
  • Patent idea generation session (“harvesting”)
  • IP strategy alignment and patent idea selection

The yield was 27 patent ideas, which were sorted into four sets, based on alignment with company strategy:

  1. IDF write-up for immediate filing (4)
  2. IDF write-up for later filing (5)
  3. Recorded for possible later write-up (14)
  4. Discarded (4)

P2P Consulting provided full write-ups for the IDFs identified immediate filings and later filings, with engagement with patent counsel as required.
